The 2012 Jeep Wrangler has elevated its game.

For starters, it has improved on-road performance coupled with off-road prowess thanks in part to the new Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine - this replaces the 3.8-liter V6 - that produces 285-horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

"The (Wrangler) has far more horsepower than ever," said Cliff Rogers, internet sales manager at Cabral Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Suzuki, 1145 W. Yosemite Ave., Manteca.

Try over 80-plus hp or a 45 percent increase from last year's model.

Add four-wheel drive and an optional five-speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual transmission.

"Off-road enthusiasts will enjoy this Jeep," said Rogers.

He noted that the Pentastar engine has a canister-free oil filter element, meaning no oil filters. This engine also operates on a timing chain rather than timing belt.

The Wrangler Sahara comes with a color-match freedom or modular hardtop with three-piece removal.

"We've had the new Jeep Wranglers since last month. They've been popular among Jeep enthusiasts and have been flying off the lot," Rogers said.

With all the added features, he said those who do the customized jobs won't have to do so with the new Wrangler.

Standard features include electronic stability control with roll control, traction control, brake assist and hill hold control.

The Sahara can be had with Infinity speakers, power window, remote keyless entry, and 18-inch wheels.
