The fourth annual Pumpkin Run is Saturday.

Registration will be accepted prior to the start of the 5K and one mile races.

“But it’s important to get there early for registration, especially for the one mile,” said Wendy King, who is helping to organize the event benefiting the Manteca Unified Student Trust.

The mile run is the first of the two races, with the event starting promptly at 8 a.m.

Cost is $20. The commemorative T-shirts given to participants will only be available while supplies last.

King indicated that the registration as of Thursday afternoon was in the neighborhood of 220.

“We’re expecting more signups in the next day or two,” she added.

Entry fees are tax deductible. A receipt can be picked during registration upon request.

The Pumpkin Run has been a major supporter of MUST since it was founded in 2006 by a group of community members, elected officials and educators.

A non-profit organization, MUST provides assistance to youngsters in the Manteca Unified School District, with endeavors including the afterschool sports program that replaced the Acorn League.

Day-of-the-race registration for the Pumpkin Run begins bright and early at 7 o’clock.

The start of 5K race is scheduled at 8:30. The awards ceremony will be held at 10.

Ribbons and medals will be presented to the top finishers in the mile (8 and under, 9-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over) and 5K (13 and under, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over).

The Pumpkin Run will once again take place in downtown Manteca just north of Library Park on the corner of the bike path and Center Street. The race route is fast and flat and will include the bike path and city streets.
