STOCKTON - Stockton Civic Theatre will present “Are You Being Served?”, the hilarious British comedy based on the most popular PBS Television Series in history, produced in England, and written by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft from Jan. 13 through Feb. 17.
Directed by William J. Wolak, a newcomer to Stockton Civic Theatre but a well-known figure on the local arts scene, Are You Being Served? features nonstop double entendres. When the familiar characters of Grace Brothers Department Store prepare for a sale and then depart for a staff retreat, they survive their stay at a one star establishment with everything remaining but their modesty.
The story, in two acts, takes the staff to Spain’s Costa Plonka while the store closes for renovation. Half the play is set in the familiar store, and the remainder in Spain, where we see all the lustiness from the TV series and film, with Mrs. Slocombe (Judy Caruso Williamson) attempting to have her way with supervisor Captain Peacock (Jason Kell), when Mr. Lucas (Mic Cutsinger) tries to seduce lingerie saleswoman Miss Brahms (Maria Johnson).
The show also features frequently cast SCT actors Bill Yee, Tom Kelly, Mike Moon, and Andrea Daste, as well as Joe Neeley, Christine Fink, Miguel Chacas Jr., and Hilary Andaya.
Are You Being Served? will feature a special $15 per seat preview on Wednesday, January 13 at 7:30 p.m. A reception for opening night patrons will be held at the theatre on Friday, January 15 at 7 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres hosted by Peking Manderin Cuisine. Performances continue through February 7, on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $21 for seniors, and $15 for students and children 12 and under. Are You Being Served? is “PG” for its many double entendres.
The theatre is located at 2312 Rose Marie Lane, Stockton. For tickets to Are You Being Served?, contact Stockton Civic Theatre’s Box Office Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 5 p.m. at 473-2424, or go online at www.sctlivetheatre.org.
