Giving two turkeys a lift

Forget the old Exxon gasoline TV advertising slogan about putting a “tiger in the tank.”

For Manteca Unified School District Superintendent Jason Messer it is a matter of putting turkeys in the rear cargo area.

Messer transported two turkeys and a few caged chickens to Stockton for an AgVenrture program at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in a hatchback-style vehicle.

While sitting behind the wheel he used his cell phone to make a “selfie” video posted on Facebook complete with the sound of gobbling turkeys that you can see over his shoulder.

There are probably not very many school superintendents in California who transport turkeys and chickens during the course of a workday.

That said leaders in the Manteca farming community give Messer high marks for his genuine and consistent support of agricultural education.
