Snazzy new utility bills

Those snazzy new City of Manteca utility bills includes a customer’s previous 12 months of water usage in cubic feet. The one thing it doesn’t show is the point where water uses kicks into higher charges.

The city’s three-tiered rate is designed to encourage water conservation but isn’t effective unless customers have an idea of where their water use is at in relation to the price jumps.

City Finance Director Suzanne Mallory said she’ll explore whether a line noting the tiers can be placed across the bar graphs or at least the information on tier costs and when the different prices kick in.

Manteca charges $1.03 per cubic foot for the first 100 cubic feet of water, $1.35 per cubic foot for the next 300 cubic feet and $2.72 per cubic foot after that.
