Baby Shower for Jesus helps pregnancy center

Sister Ann Venita Britto is once again sending out invitations for the year’s most unique baby shower.

It’s the annual Baby Shower for Jesus which benefits the Manteca Pregnancy Help Center. This year, the event will be held during all the Masses the weekend of Dec. 18 and 19 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church located at 531 E. North Street.

During the anticipated Masses the evening of Saturday, Dec. 18, and on Sunday, Dec. 19, a crèche without the baby Jesus will be set up in front of the altar where presents and offerings will be placed by parishioners.

The gifts could be anything that an infant may need – from layettes and milk formula to diapers, talcum powder, and baby clothes. But items that are perennially on the center’s “wish list” are “larger diapers” for babies from three months to eight months old, baby wipes, and warm clothing for babies from three months to 24 months that they can wear during the cold winter months such as long pants and long-sleeved shirts or pajamas.

For the center itself, cash donations are encouraged since the program relies mostly on private donations to help pay the monthly rent for the office located at 640 North Main Street next to State Farm in the old Bobson Cleaners commerce center, corner North Main and Edison streets.
