Graduation for Sierra High’s Class of 2017 is 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25.For Komalpreet Badial and Gillian Montross, this special day will mark the end of countless hours of hard work, in and out of the classroom.The top academic students – Badial earned the honor valedictorian thanks to her 4.33 grade point average while Montross, who has a 4.25 GPA, is salutatorian – will have the honors of addressing classmates, teachers, families, administrators and others gathered at Daniel Teicheira Stadium.When asked about her speech, Badial, who is the daughter of Nirmaljit Badial and Kulwant Kaur, said Monday: “It’s coming along.”The past year has been a blur. Badial has juggled her AP courses along with that of her numerous activities and volunteer efforts.She was president of the Interact Club – through Interact, in which Badial has been involved with for the past four years, she’s put in some 300 hours, working with Rotary, Boys & Girls Clubs of Manteca / Lathrop, Give Every Child A Chance, to name a few – spent two years mentoring underclassmen via Link Crew, and one year of track and field as a freshman.“We made a lot of great memories, especially with the teachers who inspired me,” said Badial, who came to Sierra via Veritas Elementary School.She’ll be attending UC Davis in the fall, majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. Badial, who hopes to Neurologist after medical school, also applied for the UC schools along with Stanford.
