The hot air balloons return to Ripon.

Color the Skies benefiting Children’s Hospital of Central California will return to the Mistlin Sports Park in 2014 following the scaled-down version sans the hot air aerialists of four months ago.

At Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting, organizer Jessica Coleman is scheduled to make a request for the waiving of the fee rental for Mistlin for the two-day event that’s usually held in conjunction with the Labor Day weekend.

She’s also scheduled to announce Ripon High’s Sabrina Wright as the Color the Skies scholarship recipient.

Color the Skies 2014 is planned for Aug. 30-31. The City of Ripon fee rental for Mistlin would be $3,500.

This item will be discussed at the 7 p.m. open session in the Ripon Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

The agenda also includes:

•    Staff presenting options on managing the fields at Mistlin baseball and new softball fields. One scenario, for example, would call for leasing the facility to an outside organization with time reserved for city programs. If approved, Council would be called back later on to adopt a formal lease agreement while authorizing the Public Works Department to maintain the existing and new fields.

•    Council reorganization calling for Vice Mayor Chuck Winn as mayor and Elden ‘Red’ Nutt as vice mayor. If either declines the new position, the procedure set up by a recent ordinance would call for next in the pecking order to move up one. For example, Leo Zuber, who is third in line, could fill the vice mayor slot if Winn or Nutt decline.

•    Elected leaders could adopt a new ordinance, defining the “Central Traffic District” while removing the section “Parking between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. restricted.”
