Beta Sigma Phi recruits members

The local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is opening membership in the Manteca/Tracy area for the 2008-09 year. Beta Sigma Phi is a social sorority created for the purpose of friendship and cultural development. They support local and national charities by monetary donations and hands-on service.

Membership is by invitation only. However, the local chapter is encouraging interested women to contact them to receive more information about the organization and to attend an upcoming event. Call Debbie Frazier at 688-6121 or Judy Gross at 962-4023 for details.

One home destroyed, others damaged in multi-alarm blaze

An unoccupied home in the 4300 block of Mesa Drive in Riverbank was gutted by flames on Wednesday, Aug. 20, burning in to the evening. Embers from a river bottom fire on the north side of Highway 108 jumped the highway, touching off fires on both Snedigar Road and Mesa Drive. Photo By Marg Jackson
“It burned about 25 acres,” added Black. “We had 37 fire engines on scene from several different departments.”
