Virginia Brown was named director of fiscal services for Manteca Unified.

Her appointment was announced at last Tuesday’s school board meeting following closed session.

She earned her degree in Business Administration (accounting) in 1992 from Sacramento State University.

In 2008, Brown attended the University of Southern California’s Rossier School, and now holds a certificate in School Business Management.

She began her career as an accountant in 1993, and established herself as a senior consultant, controller, and auditor in 1999 for Vavrinck, Trine, Day & Company.

In this position, Brown was able to provide internal and external financial audit functions for one of the largest school auditing firms in the state.

In 2003, she was hired by Folsom Cordova Unified as the district’s financial accountant. Brown was responsible for the budgetary analysis of the building and food services; facilities projects; tracking for multiyear project; and bank accountant reconciliation for all district accounts.

By 2005, Brown was the purchasing and fiscal support manager for the same district.

As support manager, part of her duty was to supervise the warehouse and the accounts payable staff.

Brown also prepared an analysis of departmental budgets, assisted in budget development, and assured that the governmental purchasing and bidding regulations were in compliance.

She’s been described as “a valuable asset to any organization,” with Brown being further recognized for her ability to alternate between details and how to manage and analyze situations using the big picture approach.

The board voted 6-1 on Brown’s appointment, with Trustee Manuel Medeiros casting the dissenting vote.
