Comedy is coming to the aid of a Manteca project whose sole mission is to reach out and support American troops serving all over the world.

The comedian is Manteca’s very own Chris Teicheira whose stand-up performances have been attracting an ever-growing legion of fans. The venue for his local performance that will benefit the Cpl. Charles O. Palmer II Memorial Troop Support Program will be The Pub & Lounge located at 1305 N. Main in Manteca on Friday, Aug. 9. The program will begin at 8:30 p.m.

Cost will be $10 per person “to get (you) in for the comedy act,” said Chuck Palmer, the father of the Marine Corps soldier who was killed in action on May 5, 2007 while serving in Iraq.

Veterans and military personnel will be admitted free to the Teicheira show. Anybody who will be coming in to see the show and bring items for the Troop Support Program will be admitted free as well. The program, which was established following the death of the Manteca High graduate, has been on a mission to send personal care packages to American troops “on the front lines.”

Adopt-a-Troop care package suggestions include the following: candy, materials for correspondences (writing paper, envelopes, greeting cards, pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners), dental floss, mouthwash in small containers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, instant coffee, powdered coffee creamer, jerky, dry goods and snacks, protein/energy bars, cereal in small boxes, granola bars, paperback books, local newspapers, magazines, and condiment packages. The Cpl. Charles O. Palmer II Memorial Troop Support Program is a volunteer effort designed to give “everyday” citizens an opportunity to reach out to active-duty military personnel who are serving on the front lines defending their country.
