Two people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds following a drive-by shooting near a Manteca school on Saturday morning.

The Manteca Police Department is still investigating the brazen attack, which unfolded at about 11:30 a.m. near Veritas Elementary School and Antiqua Park, a popular spot for soccer teams and a hangout for neighborhood children.

The names and ages of those hospitalized weren't available Saturday and neither was a motive. Detectives from the Gang Suppression Unit were on the scene, but authorities would not confirm that the shooting was gang-related.

One victim was taken to Doctors Hospital and the other to San Joaquin County Hospital. One was shot in the buttocks, while the other suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police collected 14 casings in the intersection at Pagola Avenue and Collins Street. Bullet holes penetrated two homes near the targeted residence and a car parked on the street. For more on this story, check www.mantecabulletin.com or follow the Bulletin at facebook.com/mantecabulletin.
