Firefighters raise $4,000 for HOPE Family Shelters

Not even rain kept the firefighters from doing what was needed to raise money for charity.

Roughly a dozen teams of firefighters from throughout Northern California gathered Wednesday morning at Big League Dreams for what has become an annual tournament sponsored by the Manteca Fire Department.

The event raised roughly $4,000 for the HOPE Family Shelters – which provides two free months of housing for both families and mothers with young children that are currently living on the street.

Recent cutbacks in both federal and state funding have prompted HOPE shelters to try and find more community-based donations in order to supplement their operating budget.
