It’s a new twist in the Third Annual Police Canine Association’s golf tournament that includes a putting contest with a cash prize included during the afternoon competition Friday.

There will be a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. at the Manteca Municipal Golf Course on North Union Road where 60 to 80 golfers are expected to tee off.

The $85 per person donation will include green fees, carts, hot dog and soda for lunch.  Dinner at the end of the games is scheduled at 4 p.m. at the the clubhouse with rigatoni and chicken on the menu.

Anyone wishing to attend the award dinner only is invited to make an early reservation at a cost of $25, according to Canine Officer Randy Chiek.

In the putting contest, those with two qualifying putts will compete in the finals where two golfers are going to be challenged to make 50-foot putts with a prize of $5,000 each sponsored by Aram Solar of Manteca.

The proceeds from the tournament are already spoken for with the purchase of additional canines, training equipment and handler training.  The police dogs are officer-funded and not provided by the City of Manteca.

Tickets are available through any canine officer handler or by calling 456-8175.
