Jake Parks will get his chance to be the next mayor of Ripon.
At Tuesday’s reorganization meeting, the elected leader is next in line for the post, according to the ordinance adopted a few years ago.
This musical chair method has allowed for each council member a chance at mayor.
Leo Zuber, who, like Parks, was elected in 2012 has served in the position for the past year, with Parks holding down the spot of vice mayor.
If all goes accordingly, Zuber will rotate down to Seat 5 as Mark Winchell, who was appointed nearly year ago to fill the vacancy left when Elden “Red” Nutt died suddenly, would move up to Seat 4.
Mike Restuccia, from there, would fill Seat 3, while Dean Uecker would serve as vice mayor.
He and Parks have the option to decline their new positions.
Parks is a 2001 graduate of Ripon High and the once owner of Jakes: Coffee, Tea and Sandwiches. He’s also the son of Phil and Donna Parks, who were the longtime owners of Park’s Chevron in Ripon.
Donna Parks was also served on the Ripon Unified school board.
Jake Parks, who is believes in bringing in new businesses to the area, has a degree in Business Marking from Chico State and masters in International Affairs from the University of Central Florida.
The reorganization session will take place early during the 6 p.m. open meeting in the Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
