Mike Cassidy found the third “virtual” Easter egg worth $100 in the Bulletin’s Easter egg hunt.
It was hidden at the Ford Prologis facility at Spreckels Avenue and Phoenix Drive in the Spreckels Business Park.
It serves as Ford’s small parts distribution center for the West Coast.
The clues were:
*Preferential parking for Fords — For years, the distribution center had preferred parking for employees that drove Fords to work.
*A former sweet spot — The 550,000 square-foot distribution center is on land that was once part of the Spreckels Sugar factory that turned sugar beets grown in the fields around Manteca into sugar. The Ford complex is right around where the main Spreckels factory was located before being demolished in 1998.
*A mythical bird — The distribution is located along Phoenix Drive. It was named by developers Mike Atherton, Bill Filios and Bing Kirk after the mythical bird that rose from the ashes. It was an analogy to the creation of the 352-acre Spreckels Business Park and the Curran Grove neighborhood that “arose” from the rubble of Spreckels Sugar,
*In expansion mode — Ford is in the process of adding on space to the distribution center.
Clues for the fourth $100 Bulletin virtual Easter egg will be in Saturday’s edition.
They’re waiting
for Loma Brewing
The corn hole boxes are in place.
The umbrellas are ready for the patio.
And the brewery is ready to go.
So why, several readers ask, when is Loma Brewing Company along Daniels Street in front of the Big League Dreams sports complex on the way to Costco going to open?
“Soon,” said City Manager Toni Lundgren.
The owners were aiming for a late summer to October for their opening but critical parts for the brewery were caught up in a supply chain snafu.
While that was going on, there was a change in the investors’ consulting staff and a needed kitchen modification required.
When the final equipment arrives and installed, Loma Brewing will fill out their staff and open for business.
