Radesic, who encouraged third-grade students from the Manteca, Ripon, Escalon, and Tracy unified school districts attending AgVenture to get a close up look at the Shetland pony, was crowned the Teen Miss title back in May.

She remembered attending AgVenture as a third grader.

This is the 19th annual event of AgVenture, locally.

The San Joaquin County program helps local youngsters better understand and appreciate the importance of agriculture and nutrition.

AgVenture is also part of the curriculum for local third graders in learning about the history of SJC – some 400 volunteers and some 100 booths and displays hosted by local businesses and organizations were part of this year’s event.

As for the exhibits, they featured fruits, vegetables, livestock, farm equipment, mosquito abatement, ag mechanics, pest abatement, youth organizations, and law enforcement, to name a few.

Kyra Sharp, who is a member of the Manteca High FFA chapter, had a bald python named Snoopy draped around her shoulders.

“Some are scared,” she said of the third-grade students who initially approached the white snake.

For many, their fears were put aside once they discover that the bald python was approachable not to mention a non-threat, Sharp noted.

SJC AgVenture will have three more such days this school year, including Stockton (Jan. 21), Lodi (March 5), and Tracy (April 8).
