Gary Barton is the next in line to serve as mayor of Ripon.
It’s this time of year that the Ripon City Council designates the top position along with vice mayor as part of the yearly seating rotation.
For the past year, Daniel de Graaf has served on the No. 1 seat while Barton has been seated as No. 2.
Each of the elected leaders will move up a rung during Tuesday’s reorganization meeting at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
Barton and Dean Uecker will both have the option to accept or decline the positions of mayor and vice mayor at this monthly session. If all goes accordingly, Michael Restuccia (No. 3) and Leo Zuber (No. 4) will both move up one spot while Daniel de Graaf will move down to seat No. 5.
In other agenda items:
· Council is expected to approve the Memorandum of Understanding involving the City of Ripon and the Ripon Consolidated Fire District, in turn, establishing each agency’s role in RCFD’s pursuit of a fire suppression assessment pursuit to a Proposition 218. This would also include sharing the cost on a 50/50 basis.
· Elected leaders will discuss if there’s an interest in sending a representative or representatives to the 2026 One Voice trip in Washington DC.
· The new mayor will discuss the Council Committee and Task Force appointments.
