Remembering those in care home during holidays

Administrator Paul Gross of Guardian Care, formerly Manteca Care & Rehabilitation Center, shares a wish-list bulb with Precision Auto owner Raj Lal and his staff.

Paul Gross is the administrator at Guardian Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Formerly known as Manteca Care & Rehabilitation Center, the skilled nursing and immediate care facility at 410 Eastwood Ave. helps residents in their healing and recovery.

But, according to Gross, the holidays can be tough on them.

Enter Precision Auto.

For the past 20 years, the local automotive business at 475 Moffat Blvd. has hosted the Giving Tree.

That’s the Christmas tree located in the lobby of Precision Auto. During business hours, folks can stop by and pick up a wish-list ornament off the tree containing items, in turn, serving as a Secret Santa for current residents – Raymond and few others, as an example, wrote sweat pants on the top of their list while Jon would like cologne for Christmas.

“We have people who don’t have family for Christmas – this (Giving Tree wish-list) helps them during this time of year,” Gross said.

The Giving Tree gifts will be distributed to residents at the Guardian Care Christmas party on Dec. 24.

Precision Auto is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The owner of Raj Lal, who took over the business in 2017 while still keeping the Giving Tree as a local holiday tradition.
