Kahl serving as grand marshal for Dec. 1 parade

Glenn Kahl is serving as the grand marshal for the 46th annual Manteca Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade.

The twilight parade takes place on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m. The parade themed “A Gingerbread Christmas” takes place along Yosemite Avenue starting at Library Park and ending at Garfield Avenue at Manteca High.

The deadline for entries is Monday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m. The entry fee is $50. Entry forms can be found at manteca.org. For more information call 823-6121.

Kahl owned a photography studio for 36 years and is a Manteca Bulletin reporter.

When Kahl got out of the Army in 1961 he worked first as the manager of the Manteca Chamber of Commerce before going to work for George Murphy at the Manteca Bulletin as a news photographer.

After graduating from Pasadena City College he was employed as a VIP and Hollywood stars’ photographer at Los Angeles International Airport.  Leaving Manteca at one point he became the county editor of the Santa Paula Chronicle, managing editor of the Daily Press in Victorville, general assignment reporter for the San Bernardino Sun-Telegram, and worked for the San Bernardino News Service before returning to the Bulletin in 1969 as news editor before opening his studio in 1975.

 Kahl is a past president of the Manteca Rotary Club and the organizing president of Manteca Toastmasters.

Christmas in the Park

The annual Manteca Chamber of Commerce Christmas in the Park takes place at Library Park in downtown Manteca on Friday, Nov. 30, from to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be food trucks, nativity scene and Christmas tree decorating contests, a Gingerbread Man competition, live music, carolers as well as kiddie carnival rides, a holiday cheer garden and pictures with Santa both days.

The Saturday, Dec. 1, activities include events that also are taking place on Friday plus craft and vendor booths as well as a snow hill and snow play area.

Vendor space on Dec. 1 is $100 for a commercial booth, $75 for homemade crafts, and $50 for non-profits. Food vendors are $200. The entry fee for the tree decorating and/or nativity scene contest is $10 for a family tree, $20 for a commercial tree/scene, and $15 for a non-profit tree scene.
