Two people that helped weave the community fabric of Manteca who recently passed away — Suhail Saleem Al Shabbar and Lois Page — were honored by Mayor Gary Singh Tuesday.

Singh closed Tuesday’s City Council meeting in honor of the two.

Shabbar once held the world record for the boiling and dyeing of eggs. It was set in the year Shabbar in an interview years ago with Good Day Sacramento called “nineteen eggy eight.”

And the record he set was 99,800 eggs that he boiled and dyed in the kitchen of his restaurant.

Shabbar was inspired to do so after he took his then 7 year-old son to the annual free community Easter egg hunt that the now defunct Manteca Jaycees staged for years only to find it had been cancelled.

So as not to disappoint his son, he went to his restaurant, boiled a box of eggs, dyed them, and then invited his sons’  friends over for an egg hunt in the backyard.

For years, when the Manteca Kiwanis took over the egg hunt, they boiled and dyed eggs before switching to plastic eggs filled with candy.

Shabbar moved to Manteca in 1972.

In the TV segment, he shared that “the best time of my life” was in Manteca. He added Manteca residents “gave me a  lot of love” and helped his business enterprises to be successful.

Page moved to Manteca with her husband Glenn in 1976.

She worked at the Manteca Chamber of Commerce for 10 years and then 10 years at Yosemite Realty.

After that, she owned two businesses.

Page had a long list of community events and organizations she was involved with.

The longest was the Manteca Historical Society that she served on the board since its inception and was the first secretary.
