The City of Lathrop Police Department reported an incident that occurred Friday involving a reckless driver who nearly caused two separate collisions.

It was about 8:39 p.m. that officers located the vehicle. They attempted a traffic stop but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit.

According to the report posted via social media, the chase ended about three miles later at a dead-end road on Bizzibe Street.

“As officers moved in, the suspect claimed he had a gun, concealed his hand as if holding a weapon, and repeatedly told officers to shoot him,” Lathrop police said.

Officers remained calm and used de-escalation tactics – they ultimately deployed a TASER to safely take the suspect into custody without further injury, the report said.

Suspect was found to have a blood alcohol level of .22, which is nearly three times the legal limit.

Shortly after the arrest, the Manteca Police Department contacted Lathrop police, confirming that the suspect was also wanted in connection to a strong-arm robbery that occurred earlier that day in Manteca.

The suspect was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on multiple felony charges including DUI.
