An electronic message board will help make it clear — for all practical purposes Manteca High is now fronting Moffat Boulevard.
The electronic sign — similar to what was installed in front of East Union High on North Union Road — is part of the Measure A modernization bond work now underway on the Manteca High campus.
It will be placed along Moffat mid-way between Garfield and Sherman avenues where the Pacific Motel was once located. The motel was acquired by the district to allow the expansion of the student parking lot.
A new monument sign will be placed along Yosemite Avenue near administrative offices that will stay where they are located.
Work on the two-story, 32-classroom building and media center along Sherman Avenue will be complete by August.
Just like the similar structure completed last year at the East Union campus, the Manteca classroom building will have a solar array on top.
Solar was not attached directly to the roof per se to avoid the need for it to be removed when major roof work is needed in the future.
Additional campus modernization work is being scheduled in the coming years at Manteca High and throughout the Manteca Unified School District.
MUSD’s ambitious districtwide facilities modernization effort started with the passage of the $159 million Measure G bond in November 2014 and the $260 million Measure A bond in November 2020. It is now at roughly the midway point, according to Aaron Bowers, MUSD’s director of operations and facilities.
Passage of the two bonds will ultimately allow the district to secure $202 million from the statewide school bond that requires a local district to match in order to access the funding.
The district has already received $36 million from the state and has been approved to receive $92 million in funds for work already done.
The additional $74 million that meets state criteria for matching is for future projects that haven’t broken ground yet.
When the districtwide modernization is finished, facility improvements valued at $621 million will have been completed.
That is addition to tens of millions spent on school facilities to accommodate growth funded by community facility districts in conjunction with the modernization project.
