COLUMBIA  —Sierra Repertory Theatre invites audiences over the rainbow with The Wizard of Oz, the beloved stage adaptation of the classic MGM film running through July 2 at the Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Historic Park.

The show promises iconic music, dazzling design, and a timely message about friendship, courage, and coming together when it matters most. T

his vibrant, family-friendly production features all the songs you love: “Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” “We’re Off to See the Wizard”—plus a cast of unforgettable characters brought to life by a stellar team of professional performers and designers.

Co-directed by Sierra Rep’s Executive Producer Scott Viets and Producing Artistic Director Jerry Lee, the production blends classic Hollywood charm with heartfelt community spirit. L. Frank Baum’s tale of a Kansas girl whisked away to a land of magic has captivated generations.

This version, adapted by the Royal Shakespeare Company, faithfully recreates the magic of the 1939 film while adding theatrical flair and fresh energy perfect for the stage. When Dorothy Gale finds herself in the land of Oz, she meets a Scarecrow without a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion in search of courage. Together, they face down witches, winged monkeys, and the dubious Wizard of Oz himself.

“This isn’t just a nostalgic favorite, it’s a parable for right now,” says co-director Jerry Lee. “At its heart, The Wizard of Oz is about what it takes to stay together when things fall apart. It’s about the friendships our heroine forms, and the community she builds along the way, that carry her through.”

Executive Producer Scott Viets agrees: “We all get a little lost sometimes. But when we reach out and lean on each other, we find our way back.

It’s a story of resilience, heart, and humor. And it’s just what we need this summer.” The SRT ensemble includes Maya Mays (Dorothy Gale), Cameron Chang* (Hunk / Scarecrow), Justin Burr* (Hickory / Tin Man), Nick Ferrucci* (Zeke / Cowardly Lion), Brenda O’Brien* (Miss Almira Gulch / The Wicked Witch of the West), Lee Strawn (Professor Marvel / The Wizard of Oz), Laurie Strawn (Aunt Em / Glinda, the Good Witch of the North), Kevin Heath (Uncle Henry / Guard), Quinn Igoe (Nikko), with Philip Eng, Kate Henderson, Ruby James, Kyle Moses, Jackie Thompson, and youth Ensemblers from Sierra Rep’s SRT Jr: Autumn Doescher, Bree Igoe, Quinn Igoe, Alice James, Rory Jordan, Matilda Narron, and Dexter Narron. Terry T D’Arby Rose appears as Toto.
