Give Every Child A Chance is offering scholarships to those high school students serving as volunteers for the past four years. In particular, graduating seniors involved in the local tutorial program from the Manteca, Ripon, and Tracy unified school districts. The GECAC Service Challenge Scholarships range from $250 to $1,000 to active volunteers who have contributed at least 100 hours (non-school) of community service within the past four years of high school (not all hours need to be served at GECAC). Applicants must have letters of proof – as in completed community service work – from the various organizations. No minimum grade point average is required and only one scholarship entry per student. Entries must be type and signed – application forms are available at https://gecac.net/scholarships. In addition, all attached forms must be completed in order to qualify for scholarship. Tip-A-Firefighter Manteca firefighters local #1874 IAFF will be showing support for GECAC on Wednesday, Feb. 25, by playing host to the annual Ti-A-Firefighter at Applebee’s Bar & Grill, 1272 E. Yosemite Ave., Manteca, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The hometown hero firefighters will be swapping water hoes for aprons in teaming up with Applebee’s to make a difference. They’ll be visiting tables to greet guests and collect donations in the form of a firefighter’s boot for tips In turn, 100 percent of the proceeds here will go towards GECAC and its tutorial programs.
