A half-naked woman was arrested by Manteca Police in connection with the theft of a semi-truck and trailer.
The incident started at 12:01 p.m. on Wednesday when a Sysco Co. driver was making a delivery to the Tru by Hilton hotel on Northwoods Avenue across from the Grocery Outlet.
The driver was in the trailer putting together items for a delivery when the truck started moving.
The driver — who had the keys in his pocket with a second set in a backpack in the cab — jumped out.
The driver watched his semi-truck and trailer head down the street as he called 9-1-1.
Manteca Police officers located the semi-truck and trailer traveling southbound Highway 99 near the Main Street Ripon exit.
The truck stopped in the roadway and the suspect jumped out of the truck, ignoring commands to surrender.
The suspect ran from the scene and was detained by Manteca K9 Rex. T
The officers on scene found that the female suspect was wearing a shirt, but she did not have any pants or underwear on.
The suspect – Makayla Ballewansiel, age 28 – sustained bite marks to her buttocks and defecated at the scene.
The city she lives in is not known at this time.
Ballewansiel had an outstanding arrest warrant for burglary and auto theft out of Fresno County.
The warrant was issued on Nov. 6, 2025.
Manteca Police noted the incident highlights the problem of repeat offenders committing more crimes due to being released and not held in custody.
Officers noted it could have resulted in a dangerous ending had she tried to flee given a semi-truck and trailer that ranges in weight between 35,000 pounds (unloaded) and the federal limit of 80,000 (loaded).
