Keeping Ripon looking nice.

That’s the purpose of the Landscape Repair Project awarded at the beginning of this year to Grover Landscape Service.

Efforts have included adding landscape in areas where the landscaping has died, not been replaced, or never planted.

The project consists of sections of Canal Boulevard, Colony Road, Milgeo Avenue, North Ripon Road, and Jack Tone Road.

At today’s 6 p.m. monthly session in the Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave., the Ripon City Council will look at approving a change order for the amount “not to exceed” $422.705 – cost covered by the Miscellaneous Department Capital Fund ($187,382) and Street & Road ($236, 323), according to Public Works Director James Pease.

Staff identified the additional landscaping areas where landscaping / irrigation improvements are needed.

This includes (along with the scope of the work):

·         The median on Doak Boulevard – Repair of breaks and installation of additional irrigation. Plant additional jasmine groundcover.

·         Canal Boulevard – Plant additional shrub to fill in voids. Remove and off haul dead redwood trees while grinding of the stumps.

·         Oak Avenue Fountain – Pruning and trimming of trees and vines. Weed removal and planting of jasmine groundcover.

·         Colony Road median west of Hoff Drive – Removal, tilling, grading, and amending of soil. Installation of irrigation system and planting a variety of shrubs to fill in voids throughout the median.

·         Colony Oak median between Fulton Avenue and North Ripon Road – Removal of the remaining dying daylilies and plant area with flowering evergreen perennials.

·         Jack Tone Parkway between Main Street and Canal Boulevard – Removal of the remaining dying shrubs, planting a variety of alternative shrubs to fill in voids and repair existing irrigation.

Other work listed (related to the landscaping / irrigation changes) is the painting of decorative lights, arches, and trellises on Main Street, Stockton Avenue, and the Ripon Community Center.

Back in May, Council approved a change order ($78,760) on work to West Colony Road, Fulton Avenue, Hoff Drive South, Hoff Drive North, and Doak Boulevard.

Grover Landscaping Services, Inc. was awarded the project on Jan. 14 with the original contract for $217,755. Couple that with the two change orders, bringing the total cost of the project to $719,220.
