The City of Lathrop is gearing up for two big celebrations.
The first one is Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19, at the Lathrop Generations Center, 450 Spartan Wy.
This is a federal holiday that commemorates the ending of slavery in the U.S.
“Join the City of Lathrop and the Juneteenth Committee for an evening celebrating culture and freedom,” said the City of Lathrop via social media on Monday.
The Juneteenth Celebration will take place from 4:30 p.m. through 8:30 p.m., and feature a variety of vendor trucks, games, spoken word, and a live band.
The second one is the annual Birthday Celebration for the City of Lathrop.
Incorporated in 1989, Lathrop will observe its special day on Tuesday, July 1.
The walking parade will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at the Generations Center.
Pre-registration is suggested but not required for those looking to take part in the walking parade.
Featured will be decorated wagons and strollers, dressed up in red, white & blue, looping along the City of Lathrop facility to the Kids Stage.
Food trucks, vendors, live music, carnival, and fireworks are all part of the celebration.
