It’s time to say goodbye to summer.

For that, the City of Lathrop is hosting Family Fun Night today from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Mossdale Community Park, 700 Towne Centre Dr.

The sendoff for the summer break – Manteca Unified students just returned to the classrooms with those at the River Islands school sites doing so in the upcoming week – will feature a variety of food trucks, carnival games, vendors, hands-on activities, and live entertainment.

For more information, log on to www.ci.lathrop.ca.us/parksrec or call 209.941.7372.

Other upcoming events include:

Welcome Back Party

The free event for local seventh through 12th graders will be held at The Grind, the teen lounge and skate park located at the Lathrop Generations Center, 450 Spartan Way, on Friday, Aug. 15.

The back-to-school event will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Featured will be Heavenly Ice and, in attendance, Los Primos.

In addition, the Teen Welcome Back Party will have games, food, and giveaways along with a deejay.

Touch-a-Truck

The return of the Touch-a-Truck event is Saturday, Sept. 6, at Lathrop Generations Center from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Parents can take their children to see their favorite vehicles up close and in operation.

“This is a chance for kids to ask questions and talk to the operators, watch demos, and take photos,” said the City of Lathrop.

The Lathrop Police Department will also be there, hosting a bike rodeo (space is limited).

 Animal Shelter Olympics

This event scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16, will feature dogs from the various shelters – included here are the Lathrop Animal Center, Manteca Animal Shelter, Tracy Animal Shelter, and Turlock Animal Shelter – beginning at 9 a.m. at the River Park South Dog Park, 17801 Inland Passage Way.

Each of the dogs will have a chance to demonstrate their skill in obedience, agility, and hurdles, and will be available for adoption after the event.

The event is a collaboration between the Lathrop Police Department and the Lathrop Animal Shelter, and will kick off with a passing of the torch featuring the several police chiefs.

Attendees will also be encouraged to cheer on the participating dogs.
