The City of Lathrop will be conducting free poetry workshops for local seventh-through-12th grade students.
The events of the Lathrop Poet Laureate and the Youth Advisory Commission begin this Friday, Nov. 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Grind at the Lathrop Generations, Teen Center, 450 Spartan Wy., with Poetry in Music as the theme.
“Whether you’re a seasoned poet or a curious beginner, this is an aspiring space to play with words, discover your unique voice, and craft powerful verses,” said the City of Lathrop.
The second session (Write & Share) is scheduled on Friday, Dec. 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Culinary Kids
Culinary Kids: Season’s Greeting will allow for local youngsters to learn festive cooking by whipping up their favorite treats.
Each week will feature new recipes, from gingerbread cupcakes with eggnog icing to peppermint bark brownies.
Thursdays, beginning Nov. 13 – through Dec. 11 – is reserved for youngsters ages 5-8.
Tuesdays, Nov. 18 through Dec. 8, is saved for those ages 9-12 at the Lathrop Senior Center, 15707 5th St., from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $85.
A Culinary Kids: Pie Workshop (ages 5-12) will take place Monday, Nov. 24, at the Lathrop Community Center, 15557 5th St., from 4:15 p.m. through 6:15 p.m.
Cost is $35 per participant.
