The City of Lathrop Police Department reported Monday arresting the driver of a pickup carrying illegal fireworks.

K-9 Officer Nicole Valker located and seized over 100 pounds of illegal fireworks from the bed of the truck during a traffic stop at McKinley Avenue and Lathrop Road.

The driver, Julian Ruiz, was booked into San Joaquin County Jail for felony possession of fireworks, which, police said, is a violation of the Health & Safey Code, specifying “possession of fireworks weighing not less than 100 pounds.”

Lathrop police added, “Illegal fireworks are dangerous. They can cause serious injuries, start fires, and endanger entire neighborhoods.”

They said so with the holiday approaching, and in an effort to keep the community safe for everyone.
