The City of Lathrop will soon add over 2 million gallons per day to the existing capacity of the wastewater treatment plant.
This is part of the Consolidated Treatment Facility Phase 3 Expansion.
At the Sept. 8 meeting, the Lathrop City Council received an update on the project from City Engineer Brad Taylor and longtime Senior Construction Manager Cam Reed.
The expansion of facility located at Christopher Way and D’Arcy Parkway was necessary to ensure that sufficient wastewater treatment capacity will keep up with the new development in Lathrop and River Islands, moving forward, according to Taylor in his report.
Funding for the project is $42.2 million – 20 percent is being paid from the City of Lathrop while 80 percent from River Islands. More on that.
Work began about a year ago by CSE Construction, Inc. with completion estimated for Spring 2026.
“We’re ahead of schedule,” said Reed, who according to City Manager Stephen Salvatore has been involved in every important infrastructure project in Lathrop since 2004.
Reed and Taylor noted that the project will be more than efficient and technologically advanced in providing high-quality recycled water for irrigation and other needs.
Elected leaders had approved the creation of Capital Improvement Project on the Consolidated Treatment Facility’s Phase 3 Expansion back on June 2021. This was to increase the City’s wastewater treatment capacity, doubling from 2.5 Miles Gallons per Day to 5.0 MGD, which was necessary to serve with the additional development occurring in the River Islands.
A third request was also approved for the revised and updated Design and Construction Funding Agreement between the City of Lathrop and River Islands Development LLC, as part of that Phase 3 Expansion of the existing Lathrop Consolidated Treatment Facility.
GSE Construction, Inc. was one of seven bidding for this project.
