Lou Diamond Phillips will be among the special guests at StocktonCon Summer.
The actor, director and writer gained fame in the 1980s, starring as singer Ritchie Valens in the ‘La Bamba’ and Angel David Guzman in ‘Stand and Deliver.’ Phillips also performed on Broadway and appeared on television.
This will be the 14th year for StocktonCon, which is today and Sunday,
It will again be held at the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton, 248 W. Fremont St., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
Cost is $23 at the box office (one day) or $30 for both days.
The pop culture event will again feature a large array of artists – included will be Marvel comic book artist and Manteca High product Ramon Villalobos – exhibitors, and vendor booths.
The latter will have comics, games, action figures, collectibles, card games, manga & anime, and Funko Pops, to name a few.
Another favorite attraction of StocktonCon is the costume contest that takes place at 4 p.m. on both days inside the Adventist Health Arena Panel Rooms near the main entrance (ages 13 and up on Saturday, and 12 and under on Sunday).
War Torn Front will provide collectible card gaming in the lobby concourse while Supreme Pro Wrestling will offer up shows beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the outdoor area of the arena’s south doors.
The special guests list also includes the following: WWE Hall of Famer Booker T (Sunday only), former WWE champion Nic Nemeth, ECW / WWE legend Al Snow, actor Dante Basco (Hook, Avatar the Last Airbender), actor and stand-up comedian Emilio Rivera (Sons of Anarchy, Mayans MC), actor JD Pardo (Mayans MC), and Steve Cardenas, who played the second Red Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
StocktonCon started off as a modest one-day event held at the University of the Pacific in 2012, growing over the years to become one of the top events on each year on the West Coast, thanks in part to overwhelming fan support.
