Manteca AgVenture returns to the Manteca Unified school farm on Nov. 7. Local students will have a chance to learn how to milk a cow, using a simulator.

Manteca AgVenture is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7, at the Manteca Unified school farm.

Included will be third-grade students from the Manteca, Ripon, Escalon, and Tracy unified school districts.

The 19th annual event is part of the San Joaquin County AgVenture, which is an agriculture and education program consisting of about 400 volunteers and some 100 booths and displays hosted by local businesses and organizations.

“AgVenture teaches our youngest consumers about the county’s booming agriculture industry and nutrition education through four strategically AgVenture field days each school year,” according to organizers.

The other three will be held later in the school year in Stockton (Jan. 21), Lodi (March 5), and Tracy (April 8).

SJC AgVenture Coordinator Krista McCoon said at last year’s event that AgVenture is part of the curriculum for third graders to learn about the history of SJC.

She noted that the ultimate goal of the program is to help local youngsters better understand and appreciate the importance of agriculture and nutrition while potentially inspire them to pursue a career in ag.

Exhibits, meanwhile, will feature everything from fruits, vegetables, livestock, farm equipment, mosquito abatement, ag mechanics, pest abatement, youth organizations, and law enforcement, to name a few.
