Joann Tilton along with the 1986-87 boys’ varsity basketball team and the late track and cross-country coach Alex Henderson are this year’s inductees into the Manteca High Hall of Fame.

They’ll make up the 2026 group, chosen via a select committee consisting of current MHS Hall of Fame members, teachers, and administrators of the school, according to Principal Megan Peterson.

A special half-time ceremony honoring the newest MHS Hall of Fame members will take place on Friday, Feb. 6, of the Valley Oak League boys varsity basketball game against local rival Sierra High.

Tilton served as City Clerk for the City of Manteca for over 32 years, retiring in 2016.

She was also inducted in the Manteca Hall of Fame (Government) in 2012.

As City Clerk, Tilton was the local official spearheading the local elections with access to city records along with all legislative actions.

The MHS product was honored as the 2007 California City Clerk of the Year and, in 2008, was the recipient of the Quill Award, which is a prestigious honor established by the Internation Institute of Municipal Clerks.

Tilton was among the distinguished who made significant and exemplary contributions to her community.

Members of the Buffaloes – coached by the late Mike Henry and winners of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II basketball title – and those honoring the memory of Henderson are also scheduled to be in attendance at the induction ceremony.

Henderson taught and coached at MHS for nearly 30 years, beginning in 1963. Besides cross country / track, he also handled tennis, soccer, and worked with kickers on the football team.

Henderson passed away in 2016.
