Manteca offers advice on surge of ADA lawsuits
chamber 2025
Chamber Executive Director Joann Beattie, left, and Past President Raj Lal hold copies of the new business directory and community resource guide as they stand in front of the Manteca Chamber of Commerce office.

The business organization’s membership has now surpassed 450 — its largest ever.

Chamber Executive Director Joann Beattie shared with the Manteca Rotary during a meeting Thursday at the Rendezvous Room plans the chamber has in the coming months to promote business and help strengthen Manteca’s community fabrics.

*A lunch and learn regarding how to deal with — or avoid — frivolous lawsuits filed by “drive-by” litigants using federal courts in a bid to secure big paydays that are happening in Manteca. The California Legislature changed state law to address the use of state courts for quick buck ADA claims with little or no merit after Manteca and other communities were blanketed with them before the pandemic with such lawsuits. The lunch and learn is Aug. 27 at Mt Mike’s Pizza.

*The Slick Fork Drive Thru BBQ fundraises taking place in the chamber’s parking lot in the 600 block of East Yosemite on Sept. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. The $25 ticket features pork and chicken with sides.

*The annual multi-chamber mixer at Great Wolf on Oct. 9 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Six chambers have committed so far including Tracy, Lathrop, Mountain House, and the Stanislaus County Latino chambers. There are a limited number of tables for businesses to display their offerings at $50 a pop during the evening of food and networking.

*”Let it Glow” is the theme for this year’s twilight holiday parade and Christmas in the Park events staged by the chamber during the first weeks in December.

*A Valentine’s business seminar designed for women.

*A night-time “pop-up” event for chamber businesses to promote their offerings to the community.

*Wally Watermelon — the new Watermelon Festival and Street Fair mascot — will be back the first week of June with the promise of new watermelon offerings. The two-day street fair with 300 vendors is the largest community event in Manteca.

The chamber is also continuing its marque project — Flags Over Manteca — where more than 2,400 flags are placed along select city streets eight times a year.

The effort is in need of more volunteer groups, ideally with six people allowing three to place flags in the morning and three to retrieve them at night, as they have lost some organizations that provided manpower.

The 102 year-old chamber helps members grow their business with everything from weekly coffees and evening mixtures for networking to providing free seminars addressing everything from state and employee regulations to how to effectively run a business. The chamber also produces an annual directory distributed free to residents complete listing of chamber members and their offerings.

The chamber also promotes tourism and helps newcomers find services they need.

The chamber is located at 629 East Yosemite Ave.
