The Ripon Rotary Chili Cook Off is a few months away.
Proceeds from this annual fundraiser – via Ripon Rotary Club Foundation – will go towards trade school scholarships for graduating students at Ripon Christian High, Ripon High, and Harvest High seeking vocational training along with community needs.
For that, Ripon Rotary is currently seeking sponsors and participants for the Saturday, June 28 event at the Ripon VFW, 12455 W. Ripon Rd., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year’s theme, according to Ripon Rotary President Lynis Chaffey, is “Jeep, Ducks & Chili Cups.”
Cost is $5 to sample five chili tastings.
New to the Chili Cook Off, Chaffey noted, is the Jeep Show, in place of the car show.
Jeep Show and Chili Cook Off participants along with sponsors are needed.
For participants, the top prize is $500 for the best-voted homestyle chili. Second place is $300 while third place is $100.
Homestyle chili is defined by the International Chili Society as “the cook’s favorite combination of ingredients resulting in a dish seasoned with chili peppers and spices.”
Participants will be responsible for supplying their own utensils and products as related to their chili submission along with the maintenance of the proper temperature necessary for safe serving.
The Jeep Show will award prizes including a Best in Show vehicle. Cost per Jeep Show entry is $25 in advance, $30 at the door – to learn more, email Tim Reeves at tmrkjl@yahoo.com.
