Manteca, Ripon students compete in spelling bee

That proved to be the winning word at the 26th annual San Joaquin County Spelling Bee Champion on Monday.

The event consisting of the area’s top fourth- through- sixth- grade spellers once again was held at the San Joaquin County Office of Education.

Sixth grader Aarush Narahari of Lammersville Unified’s Peter Hansen Elementary School captured the Elementary Division with the winning word.

Enna Kaur, a sixth grader at the Brookside Elementary School (Lincoln Unified), finished as the runner-up.

Kaur and Narahari will now move on the California State Elementary Spelling Bee Championship scheduled for April 27 at SJCOE.

Locally, Manteca Unified and Ripon Unified had four spellers each in the Elementary Division.

RUSD had Gage Decena (Weston Elementary), Sydney Hildebrand (Ripon Elementary), Jacob Machado (Colony Oak), and Caleb Partan (Ripona) as representatives.

In addition, River Island Academies had both Elnathan Oreta (STEAM Academy) and Aahana Sharma (River Islands Technology Academy) as participants in the spelling bee.
