The Manteca Unified School District Board of Trustees has appointed Denise Mathews to serve as the new Trustee for Area 3.
Her appointment was made official during a special board meeting held on Friday, May 30.
Mathews steps into the role following the resignation of former Trustee Melanie Greene, who left the Board on April 1 to accept a new position as MUSD’s Assistant Superintendent beginning July 1.
Mathews will serve the remainder of the term through November 2026, unless a petition calling for a special election is filed with the Office of the County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days of the provisional appointment.
A graduate of Manteca High School, Trustee Mathews brings more than 30 years of experience with MUSD to her new leadership role.
She retired as the district’s Director of Risk Management and has remained deeply connected to the Manteca Unified community ever since.
Her roots in MUSD run deep – her children are also Manteca Unified graduates who now work for the district.
Trustee Mathews is known for her thoughtful leadership and unwavering commitment to student success. Her institutional knowledge and personal investment in MUSD’s future will create valuable insights as the Board continues their mission to support students, staff, and families across the district.
