Four more Manteca neighborhood streets may be getting speed lumps soon.
The City Council is being asked to approve the traffic calming devices when they meet tonight at 6 p.m.
The new locations for speed lumps will be along:
*Edison Street between Dawn Drive and Lincoln Avenue.
*Elm Avenue between Gold Street and Lode Street.
*Paramount Lane between Sonder Way and Lion Drive.
*Parkview Street between Winters Drive and Bounty Place.
The city recently completed installing speed lumps on Wawona Street including near Sequoia Street and a neighborhood park.
Speed lumps will be going near Joshua Cowell School along Pestana Avenue and two east Manteca parks when a neighborhood pavement maintenance project takes place this summer.
The current council made it city policy to add speed lumps by schools and parks in older neighborhoods when street resurfacing is done.
In addition, the city is now requiring developers to install speed lumps on streets where city engineers can foresee issues with speeding and people cutting through neighborhoods to reach commercial development instead of sticking to arterials.
Such is the case with the extension of Buena Vista Drive to Atherton Drive that will happen when the 818-home Quaterra project is built saddling Attherton Drive east of Main Street.
The extension of Buena Vista would make it likely it could become a shortcut for people trying to reach the new Save Mart center from neighborhoods around Woodward Park to avoid South Main Street traffic.
The speed lumps have been able to reduce speeding in various neighborhoods where they have been placed so far.
