The bus access to the Manteca Unified School District office complex may be moved further north to address traffic conflicts at the Airport Way and Louise Avenue intersection.
The new entrance, if it is built, would align with Misone Street that accesses the neighborhood on the northeast corner of the Airport Way/Louise Avenue intersection.
The change is necessitated by increased traffic on Airport Way that is prompting the city to have the developers of two proposed retail centers on the southwest and southeast corners of the Louise Avenue and Airport Way to participate in a road widening project.
That project will widen Airport Way to four lanes between Louise Avenue and the railroad tracks. It will include a center median to enhance traffic flow and safety.
It also would eliminate conflicts with traffic in the left hand turn lane to Louise Avene from southbound Airport Way and buses and other vehicles turning left into the MUSD complex.
The work could dovetail into district efforts to install EV chargers and expansion of solar panels as Manteca Unified gears up for the state mandated transition to electric buses.
The new access road would work around the school farm that includes an almond orchard, animal pens, barn, shop classes, and an area that has been used over the years to plant vegetables.
Once the district completes work on its new nutritional education warehouse and offices in an existing building currently being remodeled and outfitted with necessary equipment in the Manteca Industrial Park, the existing food service warehouses, freezers, and accessory buildings at the district complex will be removed.
The current office space used by nutritional education will be repurposed for educational services.
