Better World Rescue — a non-profit group responsible for making sure 50 dogs in the last six months did not have to be euthanized at the Manteca Animal Shelter — is staging a benefit  dubbed Pups & Beer Cups party Saturday, Oct. 15 to help fund their work.
The shelter does not currently have any veterinary care available — outside of spay/neuter upon adoption. That means any animal that is taken in by the shelter sick or injured has to be rescued or euthanized.

They are also seeking to work with the City of Manteca to find ways to improve the general care for animals at the shelter as well as increase the chances for dogs to be placed in new homes.

The Pups & Beer Cups Party takes place at the Morgan Territory Brewing, 1885 North MacArthur Drive, in Tracy.

The event taking place on Oct. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. will offer a live auction, live music, lobster by Cousins, bake sale, photo booth, raffle baskets, and more. Admission is free to the event.

The local non-profit is focused on keeping animals in their loving homes and out of shelters through spay/neuter assistance, behavioral training resources, and medical bill assistance.

The organization is locally based and operates out of Tracy. It’s website is at betterworldrescue.org. They can be contacted via the website about the event and/or the organization.

Among examples the organization has helped with that were in the Manteca Animal Shelter are as follows:

*June Bug,  a dog that was hit by a car and needed immediate rescue or shelter and would have had to be euthanized. She is now a tripod dog and with her forever family.

*The group’s certified trainer evaluates dogs that shelter staff has concerns about behaviorally. This evaluation has helped almost all of the dogs involved to find rescue instead of being euthanized.

*Troy, a husky the shelter gave a 7 day deadline before he would be put to sleep due to kennel-related behavior concerns. The group performed an evaluation and were able to partner with a rescue in Canada to secure his safety.

*Banjo & Yeti, pit bulls that the shelter gave a 7 day deadline before they would be put to sleep due to kennel-related behavior concerns. Yeti was fearful and cowering in back of his kennel, Banjo would bark and growl but cower the moment you took him out of his kennel. Better World Rescue partnered with another rescue and sponsored board and train. Both dogs were completely different upon exit from the stressful shelter, and Banjo now has many adoption applications that they are sorting through.

*The group helped prevent the return of several dogs, via free training sessions, where adopters from the shelter encountered unexpected behaviors or difficulties in transitioning.

*The group spayed/neutered several long-term Manteca shelter dogs to drop their adoption fees and entice adopters.

*Networked and helped find adopters for dozens of animals who were adopted directly from the shelter as a result of their social media posts

*Advocating for increased resourcing and updated policies for the shelter at the last two (soon to be three) city council meetings
