Mayor’s race so far: Cantu raises $11,075 while DeBrum donors contribute $16,249

Ben Cantu is making his strongest effort ever in terms of raising money in his bid to secure elected office.

As of Monday Cantu had raised $11,075 in his bid to get elected Manteca mayor on Nov. 6 trailing incumbent Steve DeBrum by just over $5,000. Cantu’s donations so far this election cycle is almost double his 2014 effort.

DeBrum has raised $16,249 so far this campaign.

In their last match up in 2014 DeBrum raised $46,404 and Cantu $6,649.

In the four man race for two council seats $37,145 has been raised to date with Jose Nuno leading the way with $26,364.

Overall between the mayor’s race and the campaign for the two available council seats $64,469 has been raised to date

The overall election cycle record for fundraising in Manteca was $125,000 the last time the two council seats and mayor’s position were up for grabs in 2014. 

Gary Singh — who is now midway thro9ugh his first four-year term — set the individual high mark of $51,405 in his successful 2014 campaign when there were only two council seats up for grabs.

The overall amount includes a $2,098.50 loan to Cantu’s campaign from BC Planning. It is a firm that Cantu owns.

The balance was in-kind donations such as $2,400 for office space. The rest is in the form of contributions of $99 or less. 

As of July 31, Cantu had spent $10,992.17. He had a cash balance of $83.33.
