Plans are in the works to expand the existing parking lot at the Ripon Community Center.
The City of Ripon’s Department of Planning & Economic Development recently received a project referral to connect the two separate lots and combining them into one larger, more accessible area.
The project is in the area of 334 4th Street and 610 Acacia Avenue, consisting of 323,650 total square feet.
Plans also call for upgrading the stormwater system in order to accommodate the surface improvements.
The two nearby baseball fields will be rehabilitated and improved to provide better access and amenities.
As part of the project, the middle baseball field would be shifted to a new location to provide room for the improvements, according to the city.
At the Oct. 8 Ripon Parks & Recreation meeting, Director Kye Stevens displayed the work conducted by the Engineering Department.
He noted that the proposed larger parking lot would be “L shaped” while utilizing pavers.
The second baseball field would be relocated and moved west to make room for the project.
The baseball fields 1 and 2 would also get new fencing and dugouts as part of the project, Stevens said.
