Work on the City of Ripon’s tennis courts is nearing completion.

The facility located at the Ripon Community Center is now open to the public.

What’s left to do is the painting of the playing surface, which, according to the recent newsletter of the city, cannot be applied until the spring when the weather is warmer.

“Therefore, temporary striping for the tennis and pickleball courts has been applied to allow for the public’s use at this time,” the city said.

The facility, which accommodates four regulation tennis courts and eighth pickleball courts, will be closed for a short-time period when work consisting of painting the playing surface is applied in the coming months.

Consolidated Engineering, Inc., was awarded the renovation project back in the summer, submitting a low-bid of $424,697.

Efforts by the construction Work on the tennis courts included removing and replacing the damaged asphalt, installing new permanent tennis poles and nets, converting high pressure sodium lights to LED, providing movable pickleball nets, and applying paint for the playing surface to handle both tennis and pickleball.

Renovation was necessary after staff reported the tennis courts had “exceeded their useful life.”

Funding was made possible thanks to a Proposition 68 grant along with the City of Ripon Parks & Recreation Capital Replacement Fund.
