The Ripon City Council will meet today to revisit the Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance.

The special session will be held at 10 a.m. in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

During this time, staff is scheduled to provide a comprehensive review of the history of ADUs within the City of Ripon, highlighting the key state-mandated requirements introduced over the past eight years.

The report will also focus on areas where the City retains some local control and discretion.

Input will be sought by elected leaders in guiding the upcoming ADU ordinance amendment to ensure that all is compliant with the state law while addressing local community needs and practices.

The current ADU ordinance was passed in 2021, with the process of that beginning in early 2019.

The new California ADU laws were enacted at the beginning of this year.

These state mandates (SB2533 and SB 1211) streamlined the ADU development process by legalizing existing unpermitted units with a clearer pathway to compliance by increasing height limits to 25 feet and reducing or eliminating replacement the parking requirements.
