Ripon Senior Center may add electronic messaging sign as part of remodel

The Ripon Senior Center could soon have a new electric sign – similar to the one at Ripon City Hall – as part of the recent renovations.

The Ripon Senior Center has been undergoing recent renovations.

This includes the installation of a new shade structure, improved facing and paneling, new doors for access to the shade structure, and new landscaping and irrigation system.

Add a new electric sign.

At Tuesday’s 6 p.m. monthly session in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave., the Ripon City Council will look at approving a retrofit project change order “not to exceed” $65,843 for the fabrication and installation of an electronic programmable sign at the Ripon Senior Center.

This sign would look similar to that in front of Ripon City Hall and would be operated by Senior Center staff while following the City of Ripon’s electronic sign policy.

Funding for the sign would come from the Community Development Block Grant, which helped in paying for much of the Senior Center Rehabilitation Project.

The project was awarded to Estate Design and Construction, Inc back in November 2024. Elected leaders budgeted $388,000 for this project with $421,967 being available in CBDG funds at the time.

This is the second change order on this project. The first was for $2,000 for the removal of a tree conflicting with location for the proposed improvements.
