Lynis Chaffey called the new Ripon business Cask & Barrel a “regional gem.”
The upscale wine, beer, and spirit store located at 798 Jack Tone Road opened earlier this summer.
Chaffey, who is the President of the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, was impressed with the trendy look of Cask & Barrel.
At Wednesday’s meeting at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club, she asked owner Lakhvir “Lucky” Singh about the design of the interior of his business – the building is about 7,200 square feet at the Ripon Crossing shopping center.
For that, he indicated that an interior designer was brought on to create the graphics for the logo as well as the color scheme.
“We also kept the shelves (to sit) low to provide an openness,” said Lucky, who shares the business with his brothers Jasbir “Jesse” Singh and Baljinder Singh.
That openness has made for a welcoming atmosphere for first-time visitors, who had a chance to see it during its soft opening in June. Lucky Singh noted that the store was modeled after that of a Bev Mo or a Total Wines & More.
He and his brothers have lived in Ripon for over 20 years. They’ve raised their families here. “I have a son and daughter at Ripon High,” Singh said.
An older daughter graduated from RHS in 2019, having attended UC Berkeley while currently working at Sales Force in San Francisco. She, too, had a hand in Cask & Barrel, designing the website and social media page.
According to Singh, his family has long been in the liquor store business. His father opened his first one in Fremont back in 1998.
The Singh family currently own other smaller similar-type businesses in Modesto, Escalon, and Riverbank.
They see Ripon as that some place special.
“We wanted to bring in (a business) that wasn’t just beautiful but also welcoming,” Lucky Singh said.
That was the initial impressions shared by Chaffey and fellow Rotarian John Mangelos, to name a few.
“Why go anywhere else when we can buy from here,” said Chaffey, who supports local businesses.
Lucky and Jesse Singh are thrilled with their newest store.
The Ripon Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon-cutting event, bringing in a strong turnout to Cask & Barrel.
“We’re excited about the journey ahead,” said Lucky Singh. “We’re here to serve Ripon for years to come.”
