Woodland East is a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade campus currently under construction in the River Island community.
Included in this Lathrop Phase 2 Project is the Woodland East Gymnasium, an 18,000 square foot facility on the 1.46-acre site located at the southeast corner of Parita Emata Way and Groveland Avenue.
The Lathrop Planning Commission recently reviewed the proposed gymnasium, which will be used for sports, arts, and special events for Woodland East School – part of the Banta Unified School District – as well as hosting recreational and community-oriented events as programmed by the City of Lathrop during non-school days and private users when not being used by the city during non-school days.
The site improvements associated with this project will consist of on-site landscaping, an outdoor family picnic area with shade structure, park benches, a bike rack system, and an off-site parking lot to accommodate 20 passenger vehicles.
The gym will be designed to handle indoor basketball and volleyball with an outdoor platform (stage), bleacher seats, concessions, restrooms, and storage areas.
The Lathrop City Council approved the Phase 2 project area back in July 2021. This action added 4,010 additional homes, bringing the total to 15,010 units while creating a “town center” mixed-use area at Paradise Road (Paradise Cut Village Center) and a mixed-use Transit Oriented Development area for the future Valley Link transit station.
The Conditional Use Permit on the gymnasium, as reviewed by the Planning Commission, complies with the City-adopted land use policies and regulations.
