The targeted opening of two new Manteca Unified elementary schools to serve the rapidly growing area south of the 120 Bypass has been pushed back to August 2028.

The two campuses have encountered site-related issues that have forced the district to adjust the timeline for the TK-8 sites on Tinnin Road and the site dubbed Tara Park northwest of McKinley Avenue and Woodward Avenue.

Originally, the goal was to be able to have the campuses open by August 2027.

*The Tinnin Road site needs to be annexed to the city in order to obtain sewer and water service.

*The Tara Park location has issues with high ground water and storm drainage.

District Superintendent Clark Burke noted the school district is working with the City of Manteca, South San Joaquin Irrigation District, and various developers that could play a role in resolving the issues.

The schools are being funded primarily with community facility district fees collected on homes south of the 120 Bypass.

The district is also building an elementary school in Lathrop.

All three schools will be designed to accommodate 1,000 students.

The Tinnin site will be designed to accommodate an additional 200 students. That means classrooms will be built to handle a design enrollment of 1,000 with buried infrastructure put in
